THE GORY GUIDE TO DATING SERIES

THE GORY GUIDE TO DATING series tells the gritty, humorous, and heartbreaking story

of 26 relationships in one man’s search for love from A to Z as he dates the alphabet.

Inspired by artist Edward Gorey’s illustrated alphabet book, The Gashlycrumb Tinies,

THE GORY GUIDE TO DATING features a fresh take on Gorey’s poem

and is followed by 26 chapters, representing each letter of the alphabet.

“A is for Adam, who was all tongue when he kissed; B is for Bert, the bisexual sadomasochist…”

The first book in the Gory Guide series follows Josh Engel, a fabulous and witty recluse, through his teen years on Long Island as he navigates high school, the terrain of being bullied, self-denial, self-discovery, first crushes, first kisses, and a seemingly innocent date that turns into a kidnapping. With his snappy and biting sense of humor, will Josh ever meet anyone he can truly connect with? It’s here we meet Josh’s best friend, Paige, a tough girl with an icy Joan Jett veneer and a soft Debbie Gibson inside.

The Gory Guide to Love

The second book in the Gory series takes us through Josh’s senior year and his first real relationship. A mundane day folding fuzzy pink sweaters at The Gap quickly turns into the best day of Josh’s life when Victor, a George Michael cutout in mirrored Ray-Bans and ripped jeans, shows up on the scene. With the recent addition of Paige’s new girlfriend to their posse, the four shake-up their quaint and undeniably straight suburban town. With Victor at his side, Josh has everything he could ever wish for in a boyfriend. There’s only one problem; Josh can’t shake the feeling that the one thing he’s always wanted, might not be the thing he needs.

The third book in the Gory series leads us through Josh’s collegiate days as he deals with closet cases, scream queens, Madonna impersonators, AIDS, and the death of his best friend. Upon graduating, Josh decides to start over with a move down south where he experiences gay Holy Rollers, flaming drama queens, and sexual assault. Just as Josh is about to give up and head for New York, he meets Max, a handsome and stable thirtysomething with a confident air who’s different from all the rest. Could Max be the partner he’s been searching for? Could this Max be “the one”?

The fourth book in the Gory series follows Josh from North Carolina to Seattle, and back home to New York City. It’s here, amidst the chaos of NYC, that Josh comes to terms with the adult he’s become and the overbearing partner he’s left behind. As if dating millennials, oversexed actors, alcoholics, and uptight businessmen weren’t tough enough, with same-sex marriage recently legalized everyone from Josh’s nosey family to even nosier coworkers all want to know, “When’s the big day?” Forced to enter the world of Internet dating, Josh realizes that perhaps not all dreams were meant to come true by 40. One evening, while complaining to his co-worker and new best friend, Kyle, over one too many drinks, it dawns on Josh that Mr. Right just may be sitting right in front of him. The series ends with Josh heading out to meet Kyle for their first date.

CHASING MADNESS

Currently, in the works, Robert Charles Gompers' latest book revolves around how one man's lifelong love affair with drinking becomes another man's problem to fix. New to town, Paul Winger heads down to the local bar to see what this small town on Long Island has to offer him. It's here he meets the charmingly hilarious, James Dugan, a part-time engineer, and full-time bar fixture. Over the course of the next ten years, Paul helps James to battle his demons, while he, in turn, faces his own. Chasing Madness is a brutal look at addiction and the destructive forces behind it. Combining elements of fantasy and stark realism, James and Paul struggle to keep their relationship intact as they tumble further down the rabbit hole together. Chasing Madness asks the question just how far are you willing to go for the one you love? And is enough truly ever enough?

P Town Boys is a fast-paced, fun-filled ride through Cape Cod's gayest destination. In the spirit of Tales of the City and Mean Girls, this debut novel weaves together stories filled with outlandish humor, biting sarcasm, and wild heart.

In this first book in The Provincetown Boy series, we meet the boys of Pleasant Street. Brett, David, Jack, and Eugene have spent the last three summers strutting up and down Commercial Street, cruising The Atlantic House, and stumbling through Purgatory. But all that is about to change. With Brett's 30th birthday quickly approaching, the boys are forced to examine their lives and where they're headed. Is there more to life than bottomless drink brunches, clubbing, and Grindr?

This coming of age tale is about the family we choose, the friends and lovers we lose along the way, and what happens when you stop listening to the people around you and start believing in yourself.
