#4 - THE GORY GUIDE TO DATING BLOG

Welcome to the Gory World. It's here at our blog that you'll meet the characters from all four Gory Guide novels, have access to exclusive book excerpts, and find out about upcoming release information. We hope you'll stop by regularly to check out our website and get to know the whole Gory Gang. Today, we roll out another new character from The Gory Guide to Dating. Buckle up, here comes Brook.

Head after head turns as my best gal pal, Brook and the woman Gus claims to be his new girlfriend, enter The 9th Avenue Saloon. Brook’s penchant for big hair, tons of bright lipstick, gobs of eyeliner, and flashy clothes, all of which she’s sporting now, cause a ripple of confused faces to turn and stare. “Hmm. Woman? Man? Drag Queen? Trans?”

These assumptions happen all the time and have never bothered Brook since she considers it to be a compliment. Any other woman I know would be highly perturbed, but Brook loves every second of it.

“You’re wondering, aren’t you?” she’ll say, strutting up to someone who’s eyeballing her. “It’s okay; ask away.”

After several questions, Brook’s response, depending on how much she’s had to drink, ranges from: “Oh yeah, honey, look for me, I’m on Drag Race with Mother Ru next season,” to the more direct “Yup you guessed it, I got a rack and a sac.”

Brook is one of those people who has a tough time delineating between good attention and bad attention since she's a sucker for any attention at all. “You know, some of those Queens look so good you'd think they were models,” she told me a few weeks ago over drinks at Boxers. “Sooooo, what I think, people are really saying is ‘Damn Brook, you look like a supermodel.’” This is one of the things I love most about Brook. It’s truly a gift how she’s capable of spinning things back around to herself and always in her favor.

As Gus hugs the mystery lady friend, Brook and I exchange glances. Being I’m fluent in Brookanese, and she holds a degree in Joshilian, there’s no mistaking what our looks are saying. It’s obvious she’s known Gus’ secret for a while now and has never bothered to tell me. Due to this fact, my gaze very clearly says, “I’m going to kill you.”

Even clearer is Brook’s glare back, which says, 'I know you think you’re gonna try to deck me for this, but go ahead and just try it, Big Mo. I could take you any day of the week.'

And she’s right; she could.
